Este año 2025, el miércoles de Ceniza se rememora el 5 de marzo. Se trata de un espacio para que los fieles católicos tengan la posibilidad de acercarse a su vida espiritual y compartir el rito de la aplicación del signo de la ceniza en la frente, ya que se considera como día de penitencia, donde se debe guardar ayuno y abstinencia.
Las celebraciones están programadas para este miércoles 5 de marzo en la Parroquia Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, en horarios de 18:00 horas para la imposición de la ceniza para los más pequeños de la casa, a las 19:00 horas celebración de la eucaristía e imposición de ceniza, y a las 20:30 horas, celebración e imposición de ceniza.
Las cenizas se elaboran a partir de la quema de ramas de olivo del Domingo de Ramos del año anterior, siendo luego bendecidas. Al término de la homilía, las cenizas son colocadas sobre la frente de los fieles, haciendo la señal de la cruz. Mientras se recibe la bendición de la ceniza, el sacerdote pronuncia las palabras «recuerda que polvo eres y en polvo te has de convertir», en referencia a la fragilidad y mortalidad de las personas. La ceniza representa también la destrucción de los errores del año anterior, al ser estos quemados.
La celebración del carnaval es el punto de partida para desarrollar el tiempo de Cuaresma, una celebración católica que se inicia con el Miércoles de Ceniza y culmina con la resurrección de Cristo varias semanas después. Aunque en Sax el Carnaval se celebraba desde el viernes 21 y sábado 22 de febrero.
El calendario lunar es el que define la fecha variable, cada año de celebración del carnaval y, por tanto, la del inicio del tiempo de penitencia, y que tiene lugar siempre entre los meses de febrero y marzo.
De acuerdo con el calendario lunar, para conocer la fecha del Miércoles de Ceniza dependemos de conocer la primera luna llena de la primavera, que permite establecer el tiempo de penitencia, con los 40 días de Cuaresma hasta llegar al Domingo de Resurrección.

The ashes are made from the incineration of olive branches from the last Palm Sunday celebration, and are subsequently blessed. At the end of the homily, the ashes are placed on the foreheads of the faithful, forming the sign of the cross. Upon receiving the blessing of the ashes, the priest pronounces the phrase «remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return,» alluding to the fragility and mortal condition of the human being. The ashes symbolize the annihilation of the errors of the previous year, when they are incinerated.
The carnival festival marks the beginning of the period of Lent, a Catholic commemoration that begins with Ash Wednesday and concludes with the resurrection of Christ, weeks later. Although in Sax the Carnival took place on Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd February.
The lunar calendar is the system that regulates the variable date of the celebration of the carnival each year, as well as the beginning of the period of penance, which always occurs between the months of February and March. According to the lunar calendar, the determination of the date of Ash Wednesday is based on the identification of the first full moon of spring, which is essential to establish the period of penance that covers the 40 days of Lent until culminating on Easter Sunday.
